Clear Street

John Levene has joined Clear Street as head of institutional, overseeing the firm’s prime brokerage business, following more than 25 years at Goldman Sachs. The move will see Levene using his experience in building and managing prime brokerage platforms across the capital markets to bring leadership to his new role at Clear Street.

During his time at Goldman Sachs, Levene was partner for 14 years, acting as a leader in the client service space and serving as head of global banking and markets client experience, co-head of prime services client experience and head of prime brokerage client franchise, Americas.

“We welcome John to his new role, where his industry expertise and strategic mindset will be instrumental in advancing our mission to provide best-in-class technology and client service,” said chief executive of Clear Street, Edward Tilly.

Columbia Threadneedle

Columbia Threadneedle Investments has welcomed Francesca Mace Wilson to the EMEA equity trading desk. The move sees her leaving her role as senior investment control analyst at Capital Group, which she had held since October 2022.

Prior to this, Mace Wilson held previous positions at Titan Institutional Services, working across wealth management, prime brokerage and sales.

Head of EMEA equity trading at Columbia Threadneedle, Michael Johnson said: “Francesca joins us having spent five years at Capital Group and, in addition to trading equities, will help us enhance our position across the capital markets structure.”

TD Securities

TD Securities has named Greg Levett, Neil McKay and David Abraham as the new managing directors of its event driven sales and trading team, with all three new hires transferring from BTIG. Levett had previously served at BTIG since 2010 and began his career in event driven sales at Pali International.

Abraham’s recent roles include positions at FBR Capital Markets, Merebis Capital Management, Titanium Capital, ZAN Partners, Goldman Sachs, NatWest Markets and Credit Lyonnais Securities.

New addition McKay also covered equity sales and trading as managing director at BTIG and brings extensive knowledge of the event driven sector. Prior to his stint at BTIG he held roles at Barclays, Abberton Capital, United First Partners, Arrowgrass Capital Partners, Stark Investments, Citadel and CSFB.

Prior to Goldman Sachs, he held various senior banking, solutions and sales roles at Deutsche Bank and Nomura. The move will see him reporting to head of markets sales for Japan, Asia North and Australia and Asia South, Cecile Gambardella, who said: “He [Chang] will work closely with our productpartners and across banking, wealth and international to bridge the best of Citi’s capabilities and deliver value to both our clients and Citi.”

Broadridge

Broadridge Financial Solutions has expanded its product management team with Ian Williams and Anand Chintala stepping into senior roles within Broadridge Trading and Connectivity Solutions.

In his new role, Williams will assume the role of vice president of product management based in Toronto, leaving his previous position as chief executive of Virtu Canada.

Peter Eliades

The collaboration will see Clear Street connect to OTC Markets’ MOON ATS, allowing clients to access securities listed on major exchanges during an overnight session and use a select group of actively traded OTC equity securities in the same period through OTC Overnight.

Head of electronic execution at Clear Street, Peter Eliades said: “At Clear Street, we are giving clients more control over when and how they trade. With the growing global demand for US stocks, expanding access through MOON ATS and OTC Overnight enables clients to capture opportunities across time zones, particularly in the APAC region.”

The move is designed to give Clear Street clients access multiple overnight trading venues, enabling greater price discovery and liquidity through overnight sessions.

Through the collaboration, the firm has also expanded its product suite to provide greater overnight access opportunities.

“We are excited to support Clear Street’s continued modernisation of the brokerage ecosystem with expanded access to overnight trading across the spectrum of listed and OTC equities for their global client base,” said chief executive of OTC Markets Group, Cromwell Coulson.

Clear Street has been vocal in its support of extended trading hours in recent months. In March, the firm announced a partnership with Blue Ocean Technologies to expand to 24-hour, 6-day trading capabilities, in a bid to further enhance liquidity access and risk management for its global client base.

Extended trading has been a common market theme in the US as of late, and many major exchanges including Nasdaq, Cboe Global Markets and the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) have announced plans to extend their trading hours in equities.

Clear Street has entered a connectivity partnership with Blue Ocean Technologies to expand its market services for after-hours trading.

Andy Volz

The firm has expanded to 24-hour, 6-day trading capabilities to further enhance liquidity access and risk management for its global client base.

The development follows the launch of Clear Street’s OCC Cross-Margin, enabling futures and options traders to consolidate margin requirements and improve capital efficiency.

“We are rapidly expanding our platform with new products and services that give our clients greater flexibility and efficiency to navigate the global markets,” said Andy Volz, chief commercial officer at Clear Street.

“The launch of 24/6 trading is a direct response to our clients’ needs, and our ability to roll it out quickly showcases the strength of our technology platform.”

By connecting directly to the Blue Ocean ATS platform, Clear Street will be able to provide after-hours execution through a continuous FIX session, which it claims will have minimal downtime throughout the week, allowing for around-the-clock trading access.

Clear Street’s institutional and active trading clients can now trade National Market System (NMS) securities including stocks, ETFs and ADRs overnight, with trading hours running from: 20:00 to 4:00 Eastern Time, Sunday through Thursday.

The development follows a string of similar developments from Nasdaq, Cboe Global Markets and the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), who announced plans for extended trading hours for equities.

Last October, NYSE revealed intentions to extend weekday trading on its Arca Equities Exchange to 22 hours a day to support global, exchange-based trading of all US-listed equity products.

Elsewhere, Cboe Global Markets revealed plans in February to expand its trading hours for US equities, moving to a 24-hour model for five days a week, subject to regulatory approvals.

More recently, Nasdaq stated that it has begun engaging with regulators to enable 24-hour trading, five days a week on the Nasdaq Stock Market.

Upon his departure, Pento is set to assume an executive and partner role at White Bay, the family office of co-founder Uriel Cohen. He will remain on the board of directors at Clear Street.

Speaking to his departure, Pento said: “I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved at Clear Street […] The blend of tech and finance talent at Clear Street has allowed us to build horizontally scalable technology, disencumbered from decades-old infrastructure, integrated with the best capital markets teams on the street.

“Our product and service model is second to none, and our progress rolling out new technology solutions like Studio, our all-in-one portfolio management system, and service offerings like equity research and investment banking, has only accelerated.”

Since joining Clear Street Tilly has worked closely with Pento, jointly leading the firm through the next phase of growth.

Tilly resigned as chief executive of Cboe in September 2023, following the conclusion of an investigation – launched in August – that determined he had failed to disclose personal relationships with colleagues.

“What Chris has achieved for Clear Street since the founding in 2018 is extraordinary, and I’m grateful for his vision and commitment to this innovative business,” said Tilly.
