Clear Street has named Matthew Cousens as its new managing director, head of electronic execution, EMEA. 

London-based Cousens previously served as head of platform sales for Citi for two and half years from February 2020, where he covered distribution and sales across its cash equities platform.   

He also brings extensive industry experience to the role, and prior to his stint at Citi, acted as head of EMEA execution sales at Barclays, as well as Credit Suisse’s co-head of AES sales for Europe from 2007 to 2020.  

Additionally, following his departure from Citi he worked at BestEx Research, where he served as head of EMEA equities, driving the firm’s equities execution algorithms for US and Canadian trading. 

He also pursued other opportunities, such as founding management consultancy firm, Milvus-I Consultancy.

Cousens confirmed his new position in a social media announcement.  

He said: “I’m delighted to share that I’m starting a new position as MD, Head of Electronic Execution EMEA at Clear Street! Lots to do here as we look to build on the success that Clear Street has already achieved. But with a great team coming together here in London, we have a very exciting future ahead…!”

Cousens’ new role follows a string of recent appointments for Clear Street, including new trading and execution hires in February 2025 in a push to expand UK operations. 

The new appointments saw Luke Holmes stepping into the position of managing director, sales trading, Matthew Cyzer as head of markets execution, Tarquin Orchard as global head of event-driven strategies and Phillip Hylander as managing director, execution.

Similarly, the firm announced in April 2025 that John Levene would be joining as head of institutional to oversee the firm’s prime brokerage business, following more than 25 years at Goldman Sachs.

Broadridge Financial Solutions has expanded its product management team with Ian Williams and Anand Chintala stepping into senior roles within Broadridge Trading and Connectivity Solutions.

In his new role, Williams will assume the role of vice president of product management based in Toronto, leaving his previous position as chief executive of Virtu Canada.  

Similarly, Chintala will become the division’s senior director in New York, and joins from Barclays, where he acted as director of portfolio trading.  

The new positions will see Williams leading Broadridge’s ongoing expansion of its Canadian business and global trading solutions, while Chintala’s role will focus on optimising front-office trading product solution, to drive the firm’s influence and competitiveness in the America’s market.  

Both will report to Brian Pomraning, chief product officer of Broadridge Trading and Connectivity Solutions.  

Williams brings more than 30 years of trading and product leadership positions to the role, and prior to his time at Virtu Financial, he worked at TriAct Canada Marketplace – now Cboe Global Markets, Perimeter Financial Corp and TD. 

With over three decades of trading and product leadership positions in both Canada and the US, Williams will be instrumental in expanding our global footprint in Canada,” said the firm in an update on social media. 

Chintala also has extensive industry experience, with a focus on portfolio trading. Before his role at Barclays, he held director and vice president titles at Lehman Brothers and ITG.

Paul Johnson was named head of equities, Asia Pacific at Barclays, based in Hong Kong, as the firm looks to enhance its regional capabilities and drive growth in the region. Most recently, he served as APAC co-head of equity derivatives and head of exotics equity derivatives trading at Goldman Sachs in Hong Kong. Johnson has more than 20 years’ experience in equities and derivatives, having previously served in a range of roles across Europe and Asia. Past roles include stints as head of CEEMEA and Latin America FXO trading at Bank of America in London – focused on the MENA region, and as a trader at Goldman Sachs working on CEEMEA FXO. 

The London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) named Susi de Verdelon chief executive of LCH Limited, set to assume the role next month pending regulatory approvals. De Verdelon joined LCH Limited in 2017 and currently serves as group head of LCH SwapClear and Listed Rates. Before joining LCH Limited, she held various sales and strategy roles in the securities division as a managing director at Goldman Sachs. De Verdelon will report to Maguire and will replace Isabelle Girolami, who has served as LCH Limited’s chief executive since November 2019.

Fixed income investment bank KNG Securities appointed Edward Williams to its fixed income sales team as an emerging markets fixed income specialist. He joined the bank from Mizuho International, where he most recently served as director within emerging markets credit sales. Elsewhere in his career, Williams held credit sales-related roles at VTB Capital, BNP Paribas, ING Nederland and CIBC World Markets.

Specifically, Johnson will oversee e-trading, equity derivatives, and equity-linked financing, as well as having oversight for the firm’s ‘Prime’ offering. 

He is set to report regionally to Jaideep Khanna, chief executive of Barclays, Asia Pacific and Head of Markets, Asia Pacific, and to Scott McDavid, global head of equities functionally.

Speaking about Johnson’s appointment, McDavid said: “[Johnson’s] appointment reflects our continued investment in APAC as one of the key regions for our global equities franchise. David Garner is set to join Barclays as head of securitised products bond trading in June, following just over a year as managing director at Atlas SP Partners.

Garner has two decades of industry experience, having previously spent 14 years at Credit Suisse, most recently as co-head of securitised products trading.

In his new role, Garner will be based in New York and report to global head of securitised products, Scott Eichel.

Speaking in an announcement, Eichel said: “This appointment underlines our commitment to attract and invest in the best talent. David brings a wealth of technical and product experience, alongside a strong track record of leadership in trading franchises across agency and non-agency desks.

“Looking ahead, we are confident that our clients will benefit from David’s expertise as we execute against our next set of priorities and deliver on our next phase of growth.”

Garner moved to Atlas following the Apollo Global Management acquisition of Credit Suisse’s SP franchise last year.

Barclays specifically highlighted Garner’s “deep client relationships and product knowledge” as key factors as they seek to grow its global markets business – a key revenue driver for the firm.

Barclays’ stated goal is to become a top five securitised products trading desk in the US.

Long-standing Goldman Sachs executive Jim Esposito is set to leave after almost three decades at the institution. Esposito joined Goldman Sachs in 1995 as a salesperson for emerging markets debt, before subsequently being named managing director in 2002 and partner in 2006. During his tenure at Goldman, Esposito served in a variety of roles including operating officer of the investment banking division, head of the EMEA financing group, and co-head of the global financing group. He later took on his more recent roles as global co-head of the global markets division and global co-head of investment banking, and finally, his most recent role as co-head of global banking and markets. Upon his departure, he will take on the role of senior director.

Robbert Booij is set to take over as chief executive of Eurex Frankfurt AG, effective from 1 July 2024, succeeding Michael Peters in the role. Booij, who is joining the Eurex executive board in May, most recently served as chief executive of ABN AMRO Clearing, having been appointed in 2018. He has also previously held senior positions at: ICE Clear Netherlands, AFN, and the FCA. Booij is also currently chair of the European Advisory Board and member of the Global Board at FIA, as well as having previously served as chair of the Eurex exchange council. 

Abhay Kumar Sinha was named co-head of credit trading, Asia Pacific at Barclays, set to lead the credit business alongside James Roberts. Sinha has held numerous senior positions during his 25 years in the credit industry, having most recently served at Deutsche Bank for seven years, including as managing director and head of special situations – Asia. He also led Deutsche Bank’s corporate financing business in India and contributed heavily to the development of the bank’s structured finance business across south and southeast Asia. 

Mark Burgess joined commodities specialist Marex as equities trader following a 14-year stint at Winterflood Securities. Burgess joined market maker Winterflood back in 2009 and has served as European equities trader, head of European market making, and most recently UK equities trader. Burgess’ appointment follows two other traders, Ben Ralph-Davies and Joel Russell, who left Winterflood’s London business last year to join rival market maker Shore Capital, according to sources. 

Virtu Financial appointed Simon McGhee in an exchange-traded product (ETP) and fixed income sales role. McGhee joined Virtu Financial after a career break, which followed a nearly eight-year stint at Bluefin Europe. While at Bluefin, McGhee most recently served as a partner – a position he held for 10 months. Prior to that, he was director, head of ETF business development at the firm. Before joining Bluefin, McGhee held an iShares capital markets role at BlackRock for three years. His previous roles include stints as a portfolio/ETF execution trader at Barclays Capital; pan European sales trader at Blue Oak Capital; stockbroker at Compagnie Financial Tradition; equity dealer at City Equities.

Abhay Kumar Sinha has been named co-head of credit trading, Asia Pacific at Barclays, set to lead the credit business alongside James Roberts.

He also led Deutsche Bank’s corporate financing business in India and contributed heavily to the development of the bank’s structured finance business across south and southeast Asia.

State Street’s asset management business State Street Global Advisors (SSGA) named Dublin-based Ann Prendergast head of EMEA. Following this appointment, Prendergast retains her position as chief executive of State Street Global Advisors Europe. As part of the new role, Prendergast will develop and execute the business’ strategic direction in Europe, “ensuring continued growth in the region and providing regulatory oversight for the firms’ EMEA activities”. She will report directly to president and chief executive of SSGA, Yie-Hsin Hung and lead a team of around 500 professionals across the region. She has been with State Street since 2000, beginning as a relationship manager. As head of State Street Global Advisors Europe – her current role – she is responsible for the firm’s EU-based portfolio management, distribution, product development, fund management and operations.

Ruchir Sharma was appointed global head of foreign exchange option trading at Nomura following a stint at Deutsche Bank where he served as co-head of APAC global foreign exchange. Based in London, Sharma will report to Kevin Connors, co-head of global FX and emerging markets and is set to leverage his two decades of experience in FX markets. In this new role, Sharma will be responsible for “leading the growth and development of Nomura’s FX Options business, enhancing both the bank’s client franchise offering and trading capabilities,” according to the business. In addition, he will focus on ensuring close coordination between the FX trading and sales teams. He was previously managing director and head of APAC FX trading at Credit Suisse for almost 13 years, and before that served as a director at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, where he ran the emerging exotic derivatives for ML Asia Pacific. 

Cantor Fitzgerald’s head of equities for Asia, Hani Shalabi, has left the firm to join emerging markets investment bank Arqaam as its new head of equities execution services. Shalabi will be responsible for leading and expanding the bank’s equity execution and distribution capabilities across the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. Arqaam confirmed that Shalabi will have a specific focus on enhancing the firm’s electronic trading capabilities as well. Shalabi most recently served at Cantor Fitzgerald as its head of equities for Asia, based in Hong Kong, a role he held for three years. Previously in his career, Shalabi spent two years as head of execution services for Asia at Deutsche Bank and 10 years at Credit Suisse as head of electronic trading for advanced execution services. He also previously spent two years at UBS as head of electronic trading for Asia. He began his career at Morgan Stanley supporting its trading platforms and infrastructure.

Elsewhere in her tenure at Morgan Stanley, Egan served as an analyst for two years. As part of her new role, Egan will help develop Kepler Chuevereux’s strategy to grow its execution footprint and expertise across the globe.

Hong Kong-based Patois is set to report regionally to Hossein Zaimi, head of markets, APAC, and functionally to Ashish Prabhudesai, global head of structured derivatives and non-US Flow.

Speaking to the appointment, Prabhudesai commented: “JB’s track record and expertise are exceptional and we are thrilled to have him with us. His valuable industry experience will be a key driver as we continue to expand our global derivatives business in the region.”

Patois has a wealth of experience working in equity derivatives focused roles across several markets including North America and Europe.

The Vienna Stock Exchange has included Barclays Bank Ireland as a new trading member on its platform.

The new international trading member will participate in trading as of today. These entities currently contribute to more than 85% of the equity turnover in Vienna. 

Specifically, 47.6% of the turnover originates from Germany, 20.7% from France (20.7%), and 11.3% from Ireland. 

Barclays joins a list of 66 members who are currently admitted to trading on the exchange, including 21 Austrian and 45 international banks and securities firms. 

Raoul Salomon, co-head of markets at Barclays Europe, said: “Barclays serves clients with comprehensive and integrated solutions across global markets, and we are pleased to join the Vienna Stock Exchange today. Europe is central to our strategy and joining this exchange will offer our clients direct access to an important European market and help diversify portfolios.” 

Last September, the Vienna Stock Exchange included electronic market maker Optiver to its platform.
